Whether you’re dipping into a hidden rock pool on Dartmoor, gliding through a peaceful river, or floating in a dreamy outdoor lido, there’s no shortage of wild swimming near Nymetwood Treehouses. Our corner of Devon is packed with beautiful places to cool off on a hot day — and we’ve rounded up a few favourites to help you plan the perfect plunge.

Swimsuits at the ready? Here are some of our top wild swimming spots, all within easy reach of Nymetwood.

Shilley Pool (Dartmoor rock pool)

Set among big granite boulders with a small, calm pool and a natural water slide, Shilley Pool is a magical spot for wild swimming on Dartmoor. The mossy banks are perfect for a picnic or sunset hangout, and it’s ideal if you’re new to wild swimming or travelling with kids.

Salmon Leaps (River swimming)

Tucked at the base of Castle Drogo, Salmon Leaps is a series of old Victorian plunge pools on the River Teign. Think wild rapids, calm swims, and even a jumping pontoon — all surrounded by the dramatic slopes of Teign Gorge. It’s a favourite with locals for good reason.

Chagford Lido

Chagford Pool is the largest river-fed outdoor swimming pool in the South West. It’s just outside the lively little market town of Chagford and full of nostalgic charm. There’s a grassy sunbathing spot, a sweet little tea shed, and warm showers to rinse off after your dip. Check their website for seasonal opening times (usually May to mid-September).

Sharrah Pool (the ultimate swimming hole)

Sharrah Pool is something special. Surrounded by forest and granite slabs, this vast, peaceful pool feels like a hidden world. It’s about a 45-minute walk from the car park and roughly an hour’s drive from Nymetwood — but trust us, the route across Dartmoor is worth it alone. It’s one of the best wild swims in Devon and never feels too busy, even in summer.
