Tucked away in a 20-acre slice of Devon countryside, Nymetwood Treehouses is a family-run hideaway made for slow mornings, wide skies and deep exhales – the perfect setting for a treehouse holiday on Devon. With views across Dartmoor and only birdsong for company, this is a place to truly switch off.
Whether you’re here to roam the moors or soak in the stillness, our two luxury treehouses are rooted in comfort, calm and connection to the land. One, Starling Spa Treehouse, comes with a private spa deck, think hot tub, sauna and outdoor shower, while Blackcap Treehouse sits high on the hillside with big skies and stargazing on tap. Built from sustainable timber and designed with care, each cabin brings together natural materials, soft textures and space to breathe.
Our land is a wild mix of meadow, ancient woodland, orchard and stream. Deer wander through the trees. Owls call from the canopy. On clear nights, the stars stretch wide overhead. It’s proper peace – the kind that stays with you long after you’ve left.
We’re tucked in a valley, surrounded by rolling hills, with views that sweep across the Devon landscape. Dartmoor is just up the road, the coast within easy reach, but you might not want to leave your deck.
We’re James and Cherie, living just across the way in a 200-year-old farmhouse with our two kids, a black Labrador, and a flock of unruly chickens. Nymetwood was born from a shared love of simple living, good design, and the idea that you don’t have to travel far to truly get away.
Together with local craftsmen – including the brilliant Dartmoor based timber framers Emmanuel Hendry – we’ve built two Scandi-inspired treehouses from locally sourced, sustainable wood. Every choice has been made with intention: low-impact materials, thoughtful interiors, and a commitment to supporting Devon’s independent makers and trades. Inside you’ll find Neom scents, bath salts, organic toiletries, robes, plus every detail to make your stay effortless.
Caring for this land – and the community around it – is central to everything we do at Nymetwood. We try to leave this corner of Devon a little better than we found it.
We’ve planted hundreds of native trees and hedgerows and add more every autumn. One field is left to return to wildflower meadow each year, supporting pollinators, birds and insects. A live beehive thrives in a standing dead oak we deliberately chose to preserve rather than fell, and hedgehog boxes are dotted across the site. The wet woodland is left intact, with raised walkways so guests can enjoy it without disturbing the habitat. On any given day you might spot owls, bats, goshawks, deer or hares – this place is genuinely alive.
Both treehouses run on renewable electricity, and each has its own EV charging point. For guests who’d prefer to leave the car behind, we’re happy to share information on travelling by train. All waste is recycled on site, food caddies are provided for composting, and we use organic, low-tox cleaning products and organic toiletries throughout – better for you and for the land.
Our welcome hampers are stocked with locally sourced Devon produce, and we only ever recommend places we’ve been to ourselves – farm shops, pubs, local producers – updated as we discover new gems, so your visit puts money into the hands of the people who make this part of Devon special.
We also partner with the Willow Foundation, a charity that creates special experiences for seriously ill young adults. We gift a stay every year and have supported their annual fundraising dinner – because we believe the magic of a place like this should reach people who really need it.
All of this so you can relax guilt-free.
We want every guest to feel confident before they book. Both treehouses are accessed via a bridge at ground level, making arrival step-free. The main bedroom in each treehouse sits on a mezzanine level with a staircase, which may not suit guests with limited mobility, and our 20-acre site is naturally beautiful but naturally uneven in places. We’re always happy to discuss your specific needs before you book – whether that’s dietary requirements in your welcome hamper, hypoallergenic bedding, or simply a question about the site. Just get in touch and we’ll do our best to help.
At its heart, Nymetwood is about helping people slow down and feel grounded. Whether you’re here for a romantic escape, a treehouse holiday in Devon with the kids, or a solo reset in the trees, we hope you leave feeling rested, reconnected – and maybe already planning your return.
